The love actually DVD cover shows conventions of its genre in many different ways including the fact that the word 'Love' is in a stereotypical colour (red) and is in bold font, this makes it stand out and tells us the film will be about love. Another typical convention of a rom-com is shown through the images. Couples are clearly shown, helping us to also identify characters which will be in the movie.
The notebook DVD cover straight up shows us that it will be a romantic movie, this is through the couple leaning in for a kiss in the rain, the rain sets the tone, as rain is typically quite depressing it shows that this wont be a happy love story and that sadness will be involved. We can also see this through the colour scheme- blue generally displays sadness.
